Linux Lack's Support for Jesus

Hi all. I'm sad to say that I'll be leaving linux for an undetermined amount of time. And no, it's not due to crashes, or confusion, or anything like that: I'm leaving linux because I'm addicted to porn and am desprately seeking to kick the habit. I've searched around for internet filters and dan's gaurdian seems to come up alot. Well, that program is not free and it also looks like it's difficult to configure. It also seems like any others require quite a bit of tweaking to get working. The reason I'm going back to windows is because of a program called X3 watch. It's a simple, free program that watches every site you goto. Then, if the titles of those sites contain anything questionable, they are cataloged and emailed to an accountability partner of your choice. Imagine if your mom was the one getting that email with all the naughty sites you'd been to. That would be a pretty effective method! Also, it catalogs whenever you shut the program down. So, if the record shows some nuaghty sites, and then the program is turned off, well, you get the picture.

So, I'm going back to windows which I really don't want to do in hopes that I can kick the habit. Until I'm able to honestly control myself or a decent internet filter shows up for ubuntu, I'll stay away. It's sad too becuase ubuntu brings me so much joy when I use it. It would be sweet if a duplicate of X3 watch could be made for linux. It seems liker a pretty simple program to me since all it does it monitor the address line, rather than actually block sites. But alas, kicking this habit is more important to me than ubuntu, so I must leave.

Also note that I have talked with several christians about switching from windows to ubuntu and had them say no becuase of this very reason. I know that I'd at least be able to convert a few people to ubuntu if there was better support in this area.

Anyway, I love ubuntu and I love this community, and I will definitely be back, I just need to get some priorities straight. Thanks for all your help. Oh, and if any of you are the praying type, I'd appreciate if you'd pray for me while I try this new track.

Thanks and goodbye

Hey, at least it's original.  And the author never adds inappropriate apostrophes to the word 'lacks'.  Never specifically mentions Jesus, either.

That's not serious. Haha!
Windows [n.]
A thirty-two bit extension and GUI shell to a sixteen bit patch to an eight bit operating system originally coded for a four bit microprocessor and sold by a two-bit company that can't stand one bit of competition.

He specifically mentions Christianity, is that not enough for me to mention Jesus in the title of this thread? I fucked my sister, and we had a kid that was smarter than you.

Considering your new signature, that's kinda funny.

Please write this down, so you can remember it: inability to "get" your sense of humor does not make someone less intelligent than you.

Worker,
You forget that John Tate doesn't seem to have the cognitive ability to understand that others see the world differently.

It must be a troll. There has been a Christian Ubuntu for a while with DansGuardian built in.

Won't matter in Australia soon, I hear the Government is going to force ISPs to filter porn for us. Maybe I can swap citizenship with this man.

Good. The government is obviously looking out for you by protecting you from doing harm to yourself. Socialism is caring!

How does beating off harm me again? I thought this was just a valuable protection of the public good in case innocent children find any.

Actually the Australian ISP censorship is going to be an option at the ISP level. I don't think for a second that it will last that way.

sad, sad, sad. Still, maybe that's a step towards a good christian country. i mean everybody knows Christianity's the right religion, don't they? So there's nothing wrong with forcing its convoluted and bigoted ideals on an entire country, is there? (or an entire world for that matter)

100% FUD. maybe they didn't realise there's enough FUD being touted about linux already.

actually the christian position is this, as i have heard it: Marriage is sacred. Sex is part of marriage. Any use of sex other than within a God-blessed marital union is therefore sinful. Therefore any sex industry is sinful. Therefore the sex industry is an enemy of christianity and only exists to exploit young women who don't realise that they should not have to sell their bodies (or picture of their bodies) for money. Makes sense, but kind of only in that circular convoluted christian way that they have.

Apparently, it's okay to read erotic themed books (which explains why they're so popular) for Christians.

The bible is one of them too!

Quote from: Ezekiel 23:16-21
16 As soon as she saw them, she lusted after them and sent messengers to them in Chaldea. 17 Then the Babylonians came to her, to the bed of love, and in their lust they defiled her. After she had been defiled by them, she turned away from them in disgust. 18 When she carried on her prostitution openly and exposed her nakedness, I turned away from her in disgust, just as I had turned away from her sister. 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.

you can because what kid could be arsed to read the bible?

no kid would ever put in the effort to read Song of Songs (or Ezekiel for that matter) because of the associations with boring old christianity (or judaism, since those books are from the Kethuvim and Neviim, collections of scriptures that were adopted (and adapted, controversially) by christianity, once it got its arse in gear. Still, if you read the letter to the Hebrews (in the new testament) you'll see plenty of reasons why all that Jewish stuff actually means something totally different, so that includes all the smutty bits too.

The real christian book is the new testament, you won't find any smutty bits in there, though the Revelation of John (a very important book for most christian denominations/cults) is arguably an incredible account of a psychoactive experience, and i think Saul of Tarsus' miraculous experience on the road to Damascus in the book of Acts could be explained as a hallucinatory experience brought on by sunstroke/dehydration as well. If you look into it a bit more, the sacred texts of the christians really seem to advocate depriving yourself of the basic essentials in order to increase your chances of having a close encounter with the divine.

That's a much more interesting religion than the one about fear and opression that the Catholic church (and many others) has put together over the centuries.

Most religions push that crap about renunciation of the material world.

Quote from: Ayn Rand
They have cut man in two, setting one half against the other. They have taught him that his body and his consciousness are two enemies engaged in deadly conflict, two antagonists of opposite natures, contradictory claims, incompatible needs, that to benefit one is to injure the other, that his soul belongs to a supernatural realm, but his body is an evil prison holding it in bondage to this earth
