Not to mention BeOS had BeFS years ago.  The engineers who worked on BeFS are now at Apple, so the OS X implementation of filesystem metadata should be cool.  WinFS, from what I understand, isn't even at the filesystem level; it's just a glorified database.

Right.  It's an SQL-based layer on top of NTFS.

And hopefully, Linux will have it when ReiserFS 4 becomes the norm.  :cool:
