Who on earth would want to buy that piece of crap from Microsoft for the sole purpose of installing Linux on it???

By the way, this is NOT an effective way to make Microsoft lose mney.   ;)

XBox's are what, 200 bucks now?  That is really cheap.  Just link a bunch of them together into a "node" or whatever you linux people call it and you could have a pretty cheap, ultra wannabe supercomputer.

The thing I am exited about is being able to install the XBox Media Player without a mod chip... www.sourceforge.net/projects/xbplayer

I wonder if the signed boot loader would allow me to isntall the Media Player.. ah who knows

You read Slashdot, don't you?

You can get computers at Walmart with Linux (Lindows or Mandrake) preinstalled for the same price, without giving a penny to Microsoft. I know they lose money for each X-Box they make, but why waste all that plastic?

I never did like consumer reports.  Some things they were spot on, but some things they are just full of shit.

They may be crap for desktop computers, but we're talking about Beowulf clusters here. Besides, I doubt that the Xbox is any better than those machines, no matter how crappy they are.

however the xbox's lay flat and are stackable.  The ones from Walmart are proabably all covered with plastic, making them less stackable.

and MS loses money when you buy an XBox...
and then if you ever wanna player Halo, you have like 20 XBox's
and they are all black and cool looking
etc etc.

I don't think an XBOX  would make a good beowulf cluster.  From what I understand, you need high speed ethernet cards to make such a beast practical, otherwise the networking bottlnecks the system.

dumbasses, microsoft loses even more money if the xbox's never sell, but if you buy one, you partially cover the cost's meaning microsoft doesn't lose as much as if you didn't buy the damned thing
