I successfully Modded my XBox.

Man it is fucking awesome.
I have the XBox Media Player that loads all of my music, pics, and videos from my Mac.
I borrowed my friend's Brute Force and copied it to the HD... took too much space though and so I copied it to my Mac and burned it to a DVD, works perfectly.  (I told my friend I was stealing his Brute Force, it wasn't behind his back)
I got MAME with a shitload of ROM's
I got the original Doom on it, old school fun.

when this app called DreamiX comes out, it will add PVR.... I will pick that up along with a new HD then I will have a cheap, really awsome TiVo

Also... now my light is red instead of green, yay. (thats not a physical mod, its a setting)


All in all I am very happy
my Xbox can now run unsigned code, and no I'm not putting fucking linux on it.  Its a gaming console, the only thing it will do besides game is Music, Movies, and Pics

If your interested in the exact way I set it up (its not a mod chip, I used the exploit)
I HDD Swapped it (took my like 8 hours to get it to work)
then I copied a premade package to the game save part of the HD
Loaded Mech Assault
Loaded the game
Clicked (moved joystick) to Install Audio Hack
Then I restarted with an Audio CD in and when it is supposed to be ripping the cd it loads Evolution X (replacement Dashboard)

I chose the Audio Hack instead of the Font hack because I want to be able to not be using the Hack, if i don't need it.  This way its off when i want it off and on when I want it on.

After playing around with the settings I think I have worked out all of the quircks and bugs.

in all of the places where people are discussing Xboxes there are already 100 people that have done it.  By posting it here I feel special.  Also, its not like everyone here doesn't have an XBox.  I do.  I'm member #25, I have been here for a long time, I hate MS's shitty software.

Look at it from this perspective.  I am helping screw Microsoft.  I can run fucking unsigned code on it.  I can do whatever I want to it... OK, maybe I'm not "screwing" MS. More of a mocking.  I'm laughing in their face at their shitty programming abilities.  I did this all software, through holes (exploits) in their code.

no no no... sure there are holes in 007 and Mech Assault, but the main ones are in the Font system and the Audio Ripping system.  If I only had the Mech Assault hole I would have to boot MA every time I want to load.  Because of the font hack it boots into the hacked version.  However I have it set up for Audio Hack.  This means I need an audio cd in there and I tell it to rip the CD, then it loads the hack.

Without these people wouldn't bother doing no Mod Chip exploits cus loading into a game takes too long and you can't eject the DVD or it resets.

So I am laughing at the MS coders, not the Game Devs.


*Edit*  I also realised that it is not the job of a game developer to protect the XBox.  That is MS's job.  Also, MS still signed the game.  So again I laugh at MS's incomplete bug testing before signing the game.
