Actually, if you can't take the time to make those work with some of these and maybe Wine (or Cedega if you'd prefer to pay for a supported system), then yeah - GTFO.

BTW, if you do decide to go the Wine route, try Googling for "DLL download" and see what turns up.  A number of those are helpful in getting new apps to work.  ;)

Since I have a Windows XP installation, I'll use those DLL's. JACK seems like it will work for sound editing, but I'll leave XP on there for gaming.

(1)Whatever, I'm not trying to convince anyone to switch ... (2)in fact, it might be better if they didn't.

Why? I always feel urged to ask this. I am as guilty as the next guy, but haven't done it for a while. If I want to play games, I do it on my PS2. My PC CAN play games, but that's not what I have it for...I am more focussing towards people who ONLY play games on their computer. I seems like a pheonominal waste of money, when they could have gotten a system specifically designed to do it for much cheaper.

Personally, I despise playing games on a console. There are limited opportunities for online play, the hardware is behind the times (network connectivity for the PS2 is rather new, while PC games have been online since 1998,) and the PC has better graphics and is more versatile. I mainly use my PC for gaming, with a little bit of music production on the side, because I hate console gaming.

I certainly see and understand your point. I mean the PC DID offer much over consoles for a long time. Those times are passing though. I still believe the PC will be the platform that breaks new grounds for games, for exactly the reason you and I both pointed out. ! They're not versatile enough and 2 they are made to just play games (well, mostly, that's even changing now). Maybe it's just me being an old fart, I can't see spending $1200.00 just to play blood rayne2, Doom 3, Diablo 2 LOD, or any of the quake or Ultima games, not to mention the whole ass load of FPS out there. It seems to me I could put that money where it is used more wisely than a PC for playing games...then there's the whole buying the game expense as well...Yeah, I guess I am an old fart.

Haha, I'm probably going to buy a Gamecube next month... can't be missing 2 Zelda games.

And for better graphics, I'm probably going to buy a 32" LCD tv this weekend.

I'd wait for the Wii, which can actually handle Gamecube games.

Since refurbished Gamecubes are down to like $60, it'd be better to get one now.  Then by the time I'm ready to play the next generation of Zelda games, the Wii will be cheap too.  No reason to pay the "so new it costs more" premium.

There were actually people camped (tents and all) in front of Best Buy waiting for the PS3.  Considering that Best Buy is having a 12% off sale that starts Friday, these fuckers will probably make a ton of money on Ebay.

People on ebay are making an average $2000-2500

That's because they're gouging the hell out of people.  I'm actually enthusiastic about the Revolution (to hell with "Wii", it's the most hack-kneed promo concept I've ever heard), mostly since it can play "drive-based images of older games" and apparently DVDs - can you say ROMs and ISOs?  :)

I heard on CNN (from the pres of NintendoAmerica) today that the Revolution/Wii will not be a dvd player.  Too many dvd players in the US already, and they wanted to keep the price point down ($249).  Still, it does accept 12cm discs of some kind, so maybe you can fuck around in there.

I also found out about the newest Zelda game, "Twilight Princess" today.  Sounds like a good one.  Then, I found out that it was a Wii game.  Lame, that means I have to buy a new goddamm console!  But then, I found out the truth: "Twilight Princess" will be released for the GameCube on Dec 12th.  Thanks to Nintendo for that:
