The Soaring Dragon is our rescue from TCPA
« on: 30 September 2002, 13:37 »
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/3/27329.html

As the People's Daily puts it:

"The Shuguang Co. says, the brought-out of the 'Soaring Dragon' Sever has not only turned over a leaf in Chinese history that there was 'no chip' in China's server trade but also strengthened greatly the national defence, national security and actual strength in many sectors of crucial importance. It has made China's computer industry to follow its own and independent track of development."

In addition, as we've been discussing over the summer, a Chinese or Indian PC could provide Net Stuckists - DRM-refuseniks - with the continuation of an open hardware. Neither Microsoft nor Intel appears to regard that as a priority, right now.

If push came to shove, i would buy this technology along with their version of linux if they don't go the same route with this TCPA

Incidently check out the other links, they are worth reading, the ones about being a "stuckist".

Ok there is one problem here. China may be paving the way to be independant of MS, that's cool and all but im still very disturbed about their communism aspect.  They would probably do TCPA/Palladium like stuff to their version of Linux or their hardware to help enforce their communist ability. Haven't they already started trying to control internet data going in and out of their country?

I hate China and it's shitty excuse for a governement, i'd rather be a McCarthyist zombie and live in a half-assed democracy(US), then be a "follower of Communism", particualary Chinese Communism. Remember Tianaman square? That was not 30 years ago, that was like 11(approx) years ago. I guess im starting to fall into my old habits again of being anti-communist, but it is always better to live in a half assed democracy then a communism. Sounds like im falling into my old habits again of thinking America's previous anti-communism crusade was good, instead of thinking the US is the badguys(which I was converted to), im starting to think they are the badguys who do a some good through their bad. Sigh...

Do not focus all our attention on china here, do not forget india as well.

Incidentally china hasn't "just" started to control the internet, they have ALWAYS controled the internet.  The government has access to all the backbones that leave the country, they can turn off the internet entering their country at the flick of a switch.

Also since TCPA is only benefitting the media i don't think china should be an issue on this because they already control the media!

But... its a step forward for them?  I'm sure with their rate of development they could get something newer out.  It does say they will have P3 type processors by next year.

MS security features should appeal to China.

Yes, the Chinese govt. are control freaks, but I don't hate them.  Although yes, China is still very Stalinist, they are (admittedly slowly) reforming.  They are opening up, at least moving in the right direction.  Unlike the USA, which is getting more and more totalitarian every day.  Not government totalitarianism, but business totalitarianism.  The Chinese will not allow themselves to be bullied by big business.  And that at least is somthing to respect.  So lets not bash China, they are a great people, and they have a great country.  Like all nations, they are not perfect, they have their problems.

Every day both Europe and China are getting stronger.  USA is stagnating, and Japan is going to hell.  And even though Palladium may very well take off in the USA, it dosn't have a snowballs chance in hell in the EU, China, or in several South American nations, and many many more.  Places where big business dosn't control the governmant 100%.  So M$ alternatives will always be present.

China is not a real commuinism, i am a communist, Microsoft is a dictatorship disguised as a Communism. Communism is a system where everybody respects each other... If the real Lenin Communism worked somwhere for long enough, then there would be no need for a government at all. Its the US that gave communism a bad name, thats one reason that i hate the US government. Not US people of cource, but the US gov are too fucking Arrogant. If i had a goal in life it would be too make Communism work.

If you think about it Linux is a form of communism.  It can be seen as communism as such. Linux programmers work with each for the greater good just like true communists.  TRUE COMMUNISM is a really good system, i prefer it to democracy, what Russia had wasn't true communism and since then its had a bad rap.  Ppl not in the know are ignorant to it and believe what the US govt says.

However opening minds up to communism is like opening windows users minds to linux!  Think about it.

Ok, well I just think about shit like free speech and government oppresion in China. I suppose Russia did give a bad name to Communism.

US would have similar problems, but they would be greatly reduced. Im having trouble believing in China as a great nation to live in.

Free speech in America is over and done with.  Nowadays the only people who are truely protected but the 1st amendment are those who can afford big lawyers.  communism/socailism can be really good things, its just how radically it was/is implemented in China, the USSR etc that caused problems.  Overly radical Capitalism is just as bad.  If the purist capitalists got their way, the nation would end up like Brazil where there are a few uber-rich people, and masses that are in poverty.  No wonder that support for Socalist ideas is skyrocketing in South America.  Linux and open-source certainly don't hold true to capitalist ideals.  They believe that everything should be bought and sold, that business is everything, and that the concept of sharing ideas is sinful.  Totalitarianism certainly is not true communism.
