folder/file encyption

I've been having problems with some friends starting my machine with a SUSE Live CD and then mounting my harddrive and getting all my stuff. How would I go about encrypting a folder or a file? (RedHat 7.3)

What kind of friends are these?

Will a bios password help in this case?

They aren't messing with anything important, their just trying to tease me for using something that boasts of security and they can get into. Such as changing my default screen mode and such. But does anyone know how i could go about encrypting this?

thats awesome..... luckily one of the reasons to use it is "because its fun" or else i wouldnt be allowed to use it, LOL.

I might try encrypting a whole partition on my slackware box.

an easier thing would be to setup what *looks* to be a trap above/around your computer with knives and everything (bricks above keyboard) but dont make it functional. That should keep your friend off your computer till they figure out its fake.

I could do that, buy my mother wouldn't be able to use it. And of course the expense of the knives and bricks would cut into homecoming too much. We just play around and try to mess with each others' stuff. It's like a competition (spelling?). Anyways... What directory do i fall under to recompile the kernel? i've reconfigured it to allow ntfs(another story) and encryption, but couldn't find where to recompile.

Edit:
/usr/src/lin*    found it nevermind
