Best linux distro??
My last computer had a couple of partitions on it, but my new one doesn't. Since I'm dual booting I will have to repartition (and reformat) my hard drive. (I've played around a little in DOS, I know what fdisk is, a little suprising to the old timers here, since command interface hasn't been a requirement in computer skills since windows 9x became standard *hack* cough* Ripoff*. Anyway, maybe after I get linux going on my computer, I can convince my dad to let me put it on the family computer. I was a little confused about the iso's, I didn't see any in any of the folders, and the largest amount of space was taken by rpms. I'll get it figured out.

By the way, sorry I started the topic like this, I can already see it's going to start a big argument. I'm going to try mandrake for now, and after I get a little expierience, I'll move on to something a little more technical.

It's driving me crazy, I cannot find one single iso file on any of the sites I've tried. Red Hat has them right there, but I can't find anything on Mandrake.
-------------------------------------------------
Nevermind, I found it, I feel kinda silly now- I was looking in Mandrake-Linux for i586 or higher, I should have been looking under iso images for mandrake linux ... anyway, I got it, now it's time to download, hmmm... 27 hours until completion, I guess I better grab a sandwhich  ;)   Maybe I can use my friends computer with the cable internet access, otherwise, I will be here for a long, long, long, long time. I have a poor dial-up line (should be 56 Kb but is only running at 33.3 Kb). I guess a job at burger king isn't enought to pay car insurance, buy gas, AND pay for a dsl connection.

So once I get these downloaded and burned to disk, installation should be pretty easy, right?

Yep. It's all a GUI installation. The partition editor is even far better then what MS has.

Hey, a little update. I've had my friend downloading this stuff for me the last couple of days on his cable modem. At the end of today, I'm going to go over to his house and burn it to CD. After I get aquianted with linux, I think I will try and convince him to switch. I've already got him to switch to mozilla. So in the next few days I will have Mandrake up and running.
