as Ive just built my pc it being a p4 3.0ghz housed in a lovely zorro case I stumbled upon your fine selves only to find Ive fucked it big style by installing xp pro! the "firewall" is shit just try it at shields up, use zonealarm much better.there is a lot of blabbermouth software just waiting to screw you over just built into it not to mention the poxy fuckin sqealer with ever open unnecessary ports-msn blabberus! shoot that fucker right now.Im a simple(ton) chap with modest needs but I dont need my privacy compromised.help me switch show me a better way Im scared of change but I want to buttfuck microsoft right in the poophole how do I learn again? I was born into microfuckyourdearoledad '95 '98 and now X ray P ervert!

Hi sapper.  If you are scared of change, go gradually to linux.  You can install linux on your computer and dual boot... getting used to Linux as quickly as you feel comfortable.

Do you have a broadband connection and a CD burner?  Try downloading knoppix.  You can start off by running from the CD, and install it to the hard drive later if you want.

A good place to download Linux is from linuxiso.org. They also have a good forum for Linux issues.

A good site to find documentation about Linux is http://www.tldp.org/ and to see a blurb about each distro visit http://www.distrowatch.com/   Each distro will also have documentation on its website (well, most that I've looked for, which isn't very many).

Fedora (used to be called Redhat) and Mandrake were supposed to be the best distros for new users.  But I've also heard good things about Knoppix, because like M O'Brien says you can run it from the CD.  I haven't tried Knoppix myself.  Definitely a good way to try out Linux without having to install anything.

I downloaded the Nero Evaluation. Used it to burn the ISOs don't burn them straight to the CD cos that doesn't work. Make sure to download all the ISOs and burn them to all the disks it says needed. You shouldn't really have any problems. Just put in the first disk and restart your computer.

I use NTI CD-maker for burning ISO's...it's really simple.
for a linux first timer I suggest Mandrake 9.2 or Redhat/Fedora...whatever the fuck they call themselves these days.  Those 2 distros are what I learned on and I use Mepis on my laptop and Debian on one of my desktops now.
