Look in the "start menu" it should have added it under Extras > Sound and Video > Mplayer

Or type "gmplayer" from the command prompt.

I have had this same problem.  I used the --enable-gui option when configuring and it didn't work saying that GTK 1.2 was needed.  I have 2.0, Mandrake 2.0 does not.  Lets hope Mplayer makes it so the GUI works with GTK 2.0 as well soon.

i've just gotton the gui to work about a week ago, so if you have more questions, i just might be able to answer them.

oh yeah, post any error messages that you're getting.

when i click on the menu for mplayer or tpye gmplayer in the command prompt nothing happens. I dont get any error messages or anything. Which i think is the strange part. I know i have it installed b/c i have tryed reinstalling it from rpms and apt-get.

you said you were running red hat 8. i seem to remember them saying in their news section that the version of mplayer that came with a certain red hat release didn't work. i'm trying to think back, and i'm pretty sure that it was mplayer that said that...although i can't find it anymore. they have a lot of news on their site.

why don't you just go and download it? only this time, get the tarball. it's easier to deal with, IMO.

Mplayer doesn't come with RedHat, but you can download the perfectly built RPMs here:

http://psyche.freshrpms.net/list.html

Get mplayer-skins and mplayer. Or if you have "apt" installed just:

# apt-get install mplayer-skins

and it'll download and install both RPMs automatically.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...
