This is my story. I only want a listening ear. (or eye)

As most o'y'all now know, i'm still in high school. A high school in a tiny place called Barneveld. (aka Chicken Village)
Since this school is a quite wealthy school, what can you expect of it ?
That's right, a good pc-network. Loads of computers, not one of them below 433 Mhz. Guess what it runs. Try netcraft www.jfc.nl.
We've had numerous system failures within the past two months, and the last three weeks i saw the sysadmin virtually everywhere installing a new windoze image on every PC (using some prog called 'Ghost'). Once, i got the chance to illegally visit this great website, (behind the teacher's back   ) visited the 'Windoze bug #208752057' topic and got a BSOD. It wouldn't reset via the keyboard! (Works great  :D )

Conclusion : M$ sucks ass (tell me something i don't know)

But, there's more, wich i think, is far more worse. Because our school offers you a 'typing class', where you can learn to type blindly via the 10-fingered system. I quote:

( Translated from Dutch, i apologize in advance for lots o' spell errors )

quote:

Learn to type on your computer with basic knowledge of Word

The school gives its students of the second grade the option to sign themselves up for a course of typing blindy via the 10-fingered system.
(...)
The costs of this course consist of 145 euro's with course-costs excluded.
The student will recieve software to practice at home.

Pay a 145 euro's for a crappy piece o' M$ software ?
Shake my dick !

Our school consist out of around 2100 students. If only one person would take the course, M$ just got about 145 euro's richer. Don't think they won't be making profit out of it ...
With just one person, they already make a profit.
Now, imagine just 20% of all students take the class (wich they did !)

It's funny, all of our school's servers are windoze nt. Exept one, which is the administrative server. It runs linux.

I hate to admit this, 'cuz it never should have been this way, lots of educational software and software that come with learning books are all windoze programs.
And how about programs for teachers to keep up with all the grades their students are taking.
I really don't know any open source program that can do so, please inform me.

And the uttermost lie is this excuse:

quote:

We installed windoze, because our students are used to it.

Shake my dick again !
Don't we all know it is good for you to eat many different types of food ?
Eating something else every day is so much healthier than eating the same over and over.

Comparison: (or was it analogy ??)
I eat the same every day, because i'm used to it.

Bull shit. That don't mean it's good for you. Same with M$. Be open to something new, which could be better. (And in this case it certainly is)
You get my point ?

There was a politician who said:

quote:

Get rid of all computers and put a decent teacher in front of the class !

His life was taken with 6 bullets, may he rest in peace.
His name was Pim Fortuyn, the ex-leader of the LPF political party.
His party still fights the struggle, when i get 18 ... they'll have my vote.

Thank you.

You are absolutely right:
I think the fact that people are used to something is definately not a reasonable argument to use windows. In fact, none is. It's just crap.

I hope you understand i meant the above from the beginning, and i didn't say 'it's good to use windows just because people like it'. I never would say that

Most people are just 'happy' (in M$ terms, happy is happy with BSOD's and WPA) with what their so-called M$ 'OS' can do.
They just don't want the trouble of switching to something else.

If they had linux in the first place, they never ever wanted to try something M$ !

The big problem with Linux is that people still thinks it as a server operationg system only.

quote:
Johannes Fontanus College: We installed Windows, because our students are used to it.

I don't think they ever tried anything else than Windows.
If you can understand Windows, it takes one day at maximum to learn a newbie Linux distro such as Lycoris Desktop/LX or Mandrake. (and Lindows OS when it's released)

If you can't learn to do something well, learn to enjoy doing it poorly.
