That depends on wether it is is equipped with some exotic piece of hardware or not (ask Calum, he knows)

A google search for the brand/model of the laptop combined with the word linux might also yield some results.

I have tried installing RedHat, SuSe and Mandrake on my laptop...only RedHat worked....Try RedHat 7.1 and select the "Laptop" install....good luck

I have two Dell Lattitude laptops with RedHat 7.2 running just fine on both of them. One's an older model and one is a newer model. I also installed Linux many years ago on a Zenith 286 laptop with the Mono X server. That was before RedHat was around, I recall it being an early Slackware distro or SLS.
Someone please remove this account. Thanks...

is windows installed on that laptop?
go into the device manager (control panel->system->device manager) and write down all yr hardware, also reboot, go into yr BIOS and write down any hardware info from there you already have, making sure to change anything that windows detected incorrectly, and once you have done that, you should be set to use google to search for any potential problems that might arise.
if you see a problem looming, keep searching, i bet there are a few solutions to it, and good luck....!
