Computers (especially modern ones) are power hogs. Running them 24/7 will seriously affect your electricity bill.
Turning the monitor off at night does help a lot though. But not enough.
Unfortunatly my dad knows this so I can't leave it on 24/7. So now I'm keeping it on 24/7 while my family is on vacation to test how it works. Still fine
. It's at 3 days 23:39. Not something I'd try under Windows (well, not if I have to seriously work with it).
Too bad I don't have a decent Win machine to compare it with. My mother's PC is wayyy to slow (no idea why - it should be loads faster. Not that I care, I'm not the families sysadmin).
Actually, I should care - I was the one that had to break off and rebuild the piece of trash - three times - because we needed the space (birthdays) - and she's accusing me of making it that slow (since it's that slow since those parties...).
My sister's PC's are even slower. They're old too.
My dad's PC is so unstable I don't even dare to touch it (it's bound to go wrong - that raid array is NOT a funny thing. It keeps failing. And he'll blame it on me too...).
My old PC (P133 or something - don't know for sure) won't boot in Win98 due to missing win.com (what the hell?). Unfortunatly, said P133-something also produces a kernel panic if combined with the redhat boot/install disk  I have no idea why.
