Yes, I actually bought it although you used to be able to just keep reregistering the non-crippled trial versions downloadable from their web site. It works VERY well both for running Win* under Linux and for running Linux under WinNT/2k. The nice thing is you can have several OSs booted at the same time on the same machine, great for testing/development and actual use. At work I had to use some MS products so I ran RedHat 7.x as the "host" OS and had WinNT 4 installed as a "guest" operating system running all my Windows apps. It's great being able to "nice" Windows by "nice"ing the VMware process.
You do need a healhy machine though. At work I've been running it for over a year now on a Dell 400Mhz with 256 MB of RAM (I would definately not recommend less memory than that). At home I have a 1.6Ghz Athalon with 512MB of RAM and it works great.
The only bad thing I have to say about VM-Ware is they are in the process of striking a deal with M$ and selling more copies of M$ with VM-Ware, just what we need like another hole in the head. Of course if you install Windows in a VM-Ware session under Linux you are still legally obligated to have a licenced copy of each version of Windows you install. I would rather not have to run VM-Ware at all and not have to run Win* for the few apps I need to run under Win* for the job. It would be great if all those app vendors ported their apps to Linux so I wouldn't have to pay the piper, or the middle man. It's damn convenient though.
