Actually, SCO may really be hurt by this. They don't own the UNIX patents so they have little to retaliate with this... and I read on slashdot that Novell forbade them to revoke IBM's licence, they may have little left to stand on when this is all done.
This is still not going to help Linux in the short term. These cases won't be heard until 2005, if I remember correctly. From what I've read, the massive SCO smear campaign is already hurting Linux deployment in businesses. Are these businesses going to turn to SCO as a Linux alternative? No. They are going to go to NT and maybe BSD.
And SCO has already started making vague threats regarding BSD.
