Why do you hate Lindows XP

The whole unix security model has "fortress root" at it's center.  Abandon that, you have destroyed your last line of defense.  Yes, there are other layers, but you have just ashed the center of your security model.

Plus, if you run things as root, a program _can_ crash linux, the whole shooting match, HARD.

hey, do you think lindows will be able to emulate all the bugs and security holes in windows? maybe that is where they are going with this 'internet wide open as root' thing?

also, i hope they plan to integrate some internet explorer with the "system" since that will help them go a long way towards emulating windows' "functionality"...

Lindows has not released any full versions to the public yet.  You can get the stuff they are working on if your an insider (costs money)

or get the stuff they are working on on microtel PCs... because they claim "they have been extenisvly tested and certified"

either way.. they have not released a version of lindows yet that they actually want to sell directly as an OS by itself.  because they arent finished enough with it.. for many of the problems stated.

Do i like Lindows?  not that much.. right now... its pretty sucky and i dont care if they ever finish.

but i really hate when people bash things just to bash it.

i don't understand what you are saying.

You appear to be saying that people should not dis lindows because they have not brought out a finished version yet and therefore their actual product cannot be accurately compared with other 'finished' "systems". is this the case?

if so, may i respond...

firstly, there is no 'finished' version of windows. if there were one, what would be people's incentive to "upgrade"?

secondly, if lindows are not finished making their "system", then why are they CHARGING FOR IT??? that alone is worthy of criticism.

thirdly, lindows was supposed to be finished almost a year ago, if you believed the blurb on their website from the end of 2001. Sounds like BULL SHIT to me.

fourthly, and this is the most important one, as i have repeatedly said before, the politics of this situation is much more relevant than the actual performance issue. Lindows, unlike Microsoft windows, is perceived as a linux distribution. this alone, judging by the number of wannabe-unixheads type windoids around will be VERY damaging. These potentially openminded windoids will use lindows for a few days, decide it's shit, and then they will go back to their 20 year old, much more mature but just as shit, "system", and what's more they will resent paying for "linux" for the rest of their miserable RRIA constrained lives.

And THAT is what's so bad about lindows.

Does Lindows's price upset people? Hey I support you guys in your anti-Lindows crusdade(and I wonder why the heck you have a problem with MS sueing Lindows if it means Lindows gets a rough time in the end), but remember that Libranet won't allow you to download their 2.7 version for free, you can only download the 2.0 version. Are they suddenly evil and anti-open source? Well that's a bad metaphor, especially since I support your Lindows hatred, im just trying to address the whole anti-capitalism spirt that seems to be directed at Lindows(although they charge way too much for something that is susposed to be half-baked).

Right now Microsoft is the biggest bully on the block. Any lawsuit involving Microsoft, especially one they start I would like nothing more to see Microsoft come out on the losing end.

It's not the price of Lindows, it's the path that they are on. They appear to be following step by step in Microsoft's foot prints. There have been indications of GPL violations and rather than embrace and credit (not pay, but give credit to) the people who wrote 99.99% of their OS they try to hide where that software came from. Lindows just "smells" bad all the way around.

Not to mention the fact that I can't stand the CEO and to me appears to be a Bill Gates wanna-be. In my opinion he's only looking for a way to get rich quick off of the blood and sweat of others. Again, not against the rules but at least give credit where credit is due. Free software programmers don't ask for much as they write software to help other people solve their own problems free of charge, not solely to help some idiot get rich.

I could have it wrong, but that's the way I've seen it up to this point and I've been following them from the beginning.

Of course I know that. I don't know if they still have it up but Lindows.com always had a portrait of Michael Roberston on the front page. How many companies put their CEOs picture on the front page? He has an ego problem.
