No this isn't a troll post.

A recent ZDNET article talks about a speech by Mark Russinovich (chief software architect for Winternals Software) where he essentially says that the linux kernel is playing catch up to the NT kernel and is starting to look like it.

There's a Slashdot article as well.

Now, this guy is talking about the kernel and nothing else.  I don't see how NT and Linux could be that much alike, but then again, I'm not a programmer.

Russinovich should be shot for saying that.  First off, it's pretty obvious that any OS today is playing catch-up with Windows.  What, OS X has a sales lead over Windows?  Not seeing that happening, but you don't see Mark picking on them for that.  Second, ask Russinovich to read up on "desperation swaps" (among others) and how each OS handles them.  Still think they're identical, Marky Mark?
