It pisses me off.

It appears Lindows.com, in addition to copying the look of Apple's website, has decided to add its own "reasons to switch" list.  Here's the Apple.com list:

Lindows OS is a really bad example of what Linux is, and what it stands for...

I think the distribution is meant for the dumb and ignorant...

Everyone seems to dislike Lindows because it goes against the free spirit of Linux and is to some extent proprietary, which is fair enough, but it's no worse than OS X, which no-one here seems to have a problem with.

That's a mis-statement, because after you install the "base" OS you have to reboot and continue to install the rest of the system. SuSE does the same trick.

Can I (legally, with Aqua and all the stuff Apple puts in it, not just Darwin) get OSX for free? Because if I can I'm going to start bitching at Apple.

The point is, I can download Linux and install it on as many computers as I want, while I have to buy Lindows to do that (do they allow more than one install?). Consumers that get, say, the Walmart Lindows computer probably won't know that they can likely find a better, more stable, better looking distribution than Linux.

Well you can't get everything that's in Lindows in other distributions, but that's not really relevant. The point is, both Lindows and OS X are just proprietary addons to free software, which I think is bad, but I wouldn't say that one is worse than the other.

Actually, the Lindows license does allow you to install it on all the computers you own.  Just not on computers you don't own....

Ok the real problem with Lindows is... WANNABE-ISM! I think many of the good points it mentions here can be found in other distros.

Lindows is taking tap water, and putting it in a bottle, then calling it spring water.  

5.) Lifetime family licensing
 
It's a free software/OSS/Linux thang, not a Lindows thang.

6.) Security and Viruses

Same as above.

7.) Stability

Same as above.

8.) Openess

Same as above.

9.) Money-back gurantee

But other distros are free anyways...
Still sounds better then Microsoft I guess.

10.) It's fun!

Heh heh hey Butthead, it's a Linux thang heh heh. Ya! Ya! It's a Linux thang! LINOOKS! LINOOKS! LINOOKS! Ya... that was cool.

lindows: i really like that tap water quote.

you know it's a shame i hate pirating software, because i'd really like to try lindows out. everybody's talking about it and i want a more secure footing than i currently have from which to slam its very existence.

You don't need to get Lindows for that. After all, Lindows is mainly Debian, and you can get Deb for free, or you can also get Libranet, an easier to install version of Deb, that, while still somewhat proprietary (like SuSE, Libranet only offers the older versions for download) is a helluva lot less than Lindows, and isn't nearly so crippled. Not only that, but you won't be supporting the Lindows rip-off of the Debian community and all its work.
