GNU - write a lot of Free Software that all GNU/Linux users use.
Linux - one (albeit very important) piece of software that all GNU/Linux users use.
BSD - write a lot of software used by GNU/Linux and BSD users. I use a few BSD servers, they use a lot of GNU stuff too. It's a sharing thing.
There are philosophical differences between the three groups, any one of them will get pissed off if you confuse them with another group. (rightfully so IMO)
Unix - the OS (family) GNU, Linux, Mac OSX and BSD are based on / members of.
