lycoris linux
« on: 27 June 2002, 21:38 »
i was on linux isothe other day looking at diffrent distro's when i found lycoris. it said that it was like windows so i decided to try it just for kicks. well when i started it up it says redmond linux corporation. i thought that was really strange that redmond would have a linux corporation. and linuc looked exactly like xp when i got it running. i was scared out of my mind by it. i believe all it installs is kde 2.x as a gui so you are stuck with that untill you get online and download another one. i also had it crash several times while trying to play a movie so i was wondering could this be microsofts sly way of entering the linux market
you know its a bad day when you look more sober then usual

No, totally wrong.

The director of the Lycoris company was a former Microsoft employee, that has helped with the Windows 98 code. With his know-how of OS's, he started his own company named Redmond Linux (the company is located in Redmond), and renamed it later into Lycoris.

In two, or three months, build 45 of Lycoris Desktop/LX comes out, wich will replace Redmond Linux into Lycoris, Lycoris Desktop/LX or Desktop/LX in the OS itself.

Lycoris is a totally independent and good Linux distro wich much work is been into, and deferently worth a good try.

First of all let me say that I have never used Lycoris, however I do have a friend who used to use it as his first ever linux distro. Simply put he had nothing but trouble with it. He had so much trouble installing glibc and installing the drivers for his sound card that he came to me for help, and I was also unable to help him, so he finally gave up, decided to try out Mandrake, and since Mandrake is a bigger player in the linux market than Redmond, it seems it is a lot better. Instead of always trying to make linux easier to use, the should make sure that those features dont hinder the OS in any way.
