Powerbooks vs Powerbooks
« on: 11 January 2003, 02:36 »
It was interesting that Apple brought out the new Powerbooks this week, one website has already done some benchmarking:- here

Now what i'm wondering is, is it worth it?  The older 12" ibooks outperform the newer 12" powerbooks(12" Powerbook being the one i want to buy).  Now it seems that it isn't worth buying the 12" Powerbook, maybe it because this model doesn't have the 1MB cache like the others in its range (stupid to cripple the machine IMHO just because it cheaper).

I'm now looking at buying a bog standard ibook, what you guys think?

Those tests were theoretical and unoptimized (I think). I'd wait for some more real world tests (Photoshop, Quake) before making a $1700 judgement.

I want(ed) the 12" for its size and weight for more than anything else.  I've lugged this laptop around for a year now and its pissing me off, its 3.4kg.  I want something smaller but offering something of similar power.

What would be perfect would be if the 12" came with a 1ghz processor, the 1MB cache and the nifty keyboard, i'd be happy to pay if they would sell me it with that configuration.

What was this about the consumer having the money so they have the power?
