I haven't seen Taxi 1 or 2. I'll add them to my list.

Did you see 'Les Visiteurs' in English? I didn't know there were translations. I have to see the first one!

Have you seen Tracker? I should watch more Russian films, I've seen a few but all the one's I've seen have been great, Actually I like "foreign" films, not dubbed, they have to be subtitled. Out interest my Great Grandmother was Russian, I can't remember were they came from but they left in 1912.

I'll have to ask my grandfather

I think it was subtitled. It was quite a few years ago. I'm trying to think which other French films I've seen.....

Unfortunately, Rusian movies aren't as popular  as Hollywood-created ones in Russia .  :(

That's the same everywere I guess, which I think is a real shame. Hollywood produces some excellent films but I think perhaps sometimes their story telling is not so good, that's what's important in a film (for me) not just mindless special effects and big stars.

India (Bollywood) produces more films than hollywood and the rest of us combined. I watched this indian film recently, it was great, all about vodoo. We have a tv channel here in the UK called Channel 4 always has great films, infact if you have digital they have a channel 4 film broadcast.

Bah, I'm getting fed up of all those repetitive Hollywood movies. They all look so samey, and are full of cliches, and very predictable.

I agree they so often have no passion, no guts. Then again they are the lowest common denominator, that's what happens when you have to, or try to, please everyone.

I really like Japanese movies, the "Ring" series was great. Seven Samurai is perhaps one of my all time fav films. Story telling at it's zenith.

I guess my original list would change now thinking about it.

Haven't seen many foreign movies, but I found that the few of them I listened to were much better than most american movies. They are much more realistic, too (or in the case of fiction, more sensical). I should watch more movies; maybe I was tired of cinema because of all the crap spewed by the american industry. I'm sure there ARE some good american movie, but they are all buried by all the Hollywood crap.

If you haven't seen it I would hightly recommend "Seven Samurai" by Akira Kurosawa, get the subtitled version as well, dubbed is crap. It think you'd like it.

And of course and I can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned it yet, Frizt Lang's "Metropolis"

Also the Michael Radford version of George Orwells 1984 staring John Hurt is fantastic.

Metropolis.....

forget about Blade runner, Star wars, etc.... this is the Grandady of all sci-fi and it was made in 1927, it's silent, it's long but well worth watching. Think it inspired a lot of people, I'm sure it inspired George Orwell's 1984, Aldous Huxley etc.....

There's a re-mastered version on DVD

Indeed, very good.

I have the first edition English translation of the book - Fritz Lang's (the director) wife wrote it.

Nosferatau anyone?

Battleship Potemkin - brillaint , another Russian classic.

Koyaanisqatsi - first class.  Sequels... ummm not so good I think - Koyaanisqatsi was 10 years in the making after all.

Oh and from Amerika... Nightmare on Elm Street (Excluding the second one).

I didn't know that. Haven't seen the latest one, you don't think it's all that good?

Which carry on? My personal fav is "Carry on up the Khyber" very irreverant, very un-pc now   :D

I've seen the sequel, Powakatsi (spelling????) and didn't think it was a patch on Koyaanisqatsi.

The book of Metropolis isn't that well written, maybe to do with translation.

One film much better than the book is Farenheit 541, another fave.

Khyber... yeah.  Carry On Cleo is good too.

Ask me for a double entedre and I'll give you one!   :D
