Am I losing my memory, or was the applications section moved? If so... why? (not saying it's a bad idea, just curious as to why)

It was moved to include all applications, not just Windows ones. IMHO it was a bad idea...and it's going to take some serious getting used to. I can't just click the first thing under misc. and go to the lounge. I have to think it out now    ;)

Also, the Misc. section is getting way too crowded. I think we should add a "FuckMicrosoft" or "Site" category, and put the "Ideas and Suggestions", "Feature Articles...", "Dead Thread Zone" and "Friends of the MES" forums in there.

You can find the reason why the applications section has been moved  in this thread.

I personally think that it's better that way.

It started with a thread that talked about Mozilla and members bashing the topic starter because Mozilla isn't really a Windows application and him insisting that there was no where else to post it and so on.

Which leads to another conclusion that the webmaster has been purposefully ignoring us. He was observant enough to see that the Applications section needed to be moved but he still won't answer our emails or anything. Unless the mods are able to move sections, but I don't think so.

If it were not to go in the application section under all things Microsoft, then the next place would be the lounge.  The lounge is the most used forum already, and the applications forum is one of the smallest.  I agree with the applications being placed into the misc, it clears things up.  IE, M$ Office and such are tied to Windows, its wouldn't be entirely inappropriate to put posts about M$ applications there would it?  Either way theres no reason to flame someone about somthing so small.

i think void main's reasons for putting the applications forum outwith the microsoft section are completely valid.

i don't think i can create a site category, but i will try, and i will try to tidy up the huge miscellaneous section too. I want to try and get the lounge back to the top of the list too.

if the webmaster tells me to stop it then i might have to put everything back, but so far i think the applications forum has long outgrown the microsoft section. most of the applications we talk about on here are not microsoft ones anyway, and even if they are, it's still relevant to talk about them in the applications section.

update: i cannot create a new site category. nor can i move the forums out of order within their categories. If you want this done then you should send a PM to the webmaster or send an email to [email protected] remembering obviously to remove the bit about spam.

I don't know if it's worth all the trouble and I didn't mean to cause a stir. Thanks for the efforts though Calum!

no, i can't change any board-wide settings, just settings specific to forums i moderate. Since there are three forums (of the 13) that i do not moderate, i cannot change the order the forums show up in. i did try though. and i can't create a new forum group either, i'm sorry to say.
