the last tom cruise movie was based on a short story by philip k dick, one of the best US thinkers of the 20th century. i haven't seen minority report but have read the story. from what i hear, those who would go and see it should simply buy the book instead. and then get do androids dream of electric sheep too (although they should watch bladerunner too (also based on a philip k dick book, but thankfully not with tom cruise in it)).

sorry, off topic a bit.

i saw somebody quoting something on here a while ago that i'd like to repeat here:
a patriot is somebody who loves their country more than he loves its citizens.

I'm not even going to comment on this much. I might say something that upsets all Americans on this board and I don't want to do that. I expected more from you, who the fuck do you think you are. This has got nothing to do with my ego. Because Americas collective ego is never satisfied is it?

Oh fuck you. You've already upset me with your extremely retarded wonderment at why your country isn't the center of attention in American hollywood. Who the fuck do I think I am? I'm someone who is being honest, that's who I am. How can you deny that Americans want to see Americans in movies? Sure, it's self-centered, but then you are doing the exact same thing by complaining that the movie won't be centered around British people (and don't try that historical accuracy bullshit on me, it's a movie, remember?) Yes, it has everything to do with your ego and yes, America's collective ego is never satidfied which is also true with the rest of humanity so really saying something like that makes you appear even more like a fucking asshat.

Once again, IT IS JUST A FUCKING MOVIE It doesn't hurt anyone or make their system crash or make them visit the grocery store when they don't want to because IT'S JUST A FUCKING MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

quote:
what i want to say here is that this statement typifies americans in the eyes of the entire rest of the world.

If you are an american and you do not like being seen in this way, do something about it. you are all so proud of a country that has so much democracy, well use it. If you want to shuck the image of the arrogant dimwit that the rest of the world has you pegged as then vote people in who are not arrogant dimwits.

And fuck you too Calum. This anti-American bullshit gets VERY old after a while. You have made so many overgeneralizations that it's almost funny if it weren't so incredibly obnoxious. You make extremely broad assumptions about America when you seem to know nothing about it except what you hear in the news and what you've read in history (it also sounds like you've been listening to too much System of a Down). You need to shut the fuck up and since I know you won't and you'll just go into one of your "ooh you pulled the dumbass card again rants" go right ahead and keep making a fucking fool of yourself for the rest of your pathertic life.

OK, add patriotism...no...pride in nationality to the list of heated debates no one can win...

Pride in Nationality is very different than Patriotism.

Ethiopians will argue thier country is the best, we all wave our flags.

Like it or not, we (Americans) are currently the World Power (meaning economic and military, not defined as best).

England and even Canada have superior points to America.  America has superiority over others as well.  Lump all of the inferior and superior in one big heap and we are all about on the same level.

For those who don't like America or Americans...You are part of the problem...you get lumped into the same catagory as hate organizations, so in reality you are no different from them redneck Ku Klux Klan members, congratulations, here's your card.

If you don't like America dominating world politics, then stop crying out about how much other countries need help and send your own military out to deal with it, we will more than gladly return home.  Maybe isolationism as it was prior to WWI and again before WWII would be a better policy for us, remember the 400,000 graves of Americans throughout Europe???  Wasn't our war, but we ended up in it and the combined efforts of many nations produced coalitions that still stand to this day.  Which in turn have provided the freedoms for the ungreatful of Europe, particularly France, to voice how much they hate us.  Fine.  Hate us and send us your troops so we can leave United Nations appointments Like...
Korea
Quatar
Germany
Italy
Belgium
Honduras
Phillipines
Japan (though it was through a doctrine developed after WWII which is still in effect)
Holland
Norway
Iceland
Guam (who elected to become a common wealth)
Puerto Rico (same as Guam)
Samoan Islands (Same too)
Egypt
Israel
Lithuania
Luxomberg

Why are we there...We were told by other nations in a committee we were the only ones who could maintain manpower there, and since no one else would do it.  Some were post WWI, Some post WWII (deny that Korea isn't a product of the USSR and USA slicing up the world in our respective organizations NATO and Warsaw Pacts).  Speaking as a soldier, I don't want to be in Korea, but here I am!

The world applauded when we liberated Afghanistan.  Whom we had no dialog with for years.

The world ridiculed us for attacking Iraq who is now well on their way to self governing by the people.  We had, from Iraq to the world, lies to the UN, failed dialogs and refusal to cooperate with world doctrines.  Deceptions, crimes against humanity, mass killings.  And now we're the bad guys.  Ok, whatever, at least we stood up for those who couldn't.  Unlike some, who hid behind personal agendas.  The British saw what was right and joined us.  So did the Auzzies.

What am I trying to say in this post...Enjoy your freedoms, but don't be the biggotted bastards that rule the minds of the feeble.  If you like speaking your mind, thank a dead soldier.
