hmm my really bad luck :(

I am getting this feeling that (with linux) I have absolutely no luck  :( . I have _never_ gotten Linux to work properly ever for longer than a day and usually the first boot up after the setup is a failure with some message like cannot mount /whatever/hdawhatever

Whenever I get it to work I either have to remove it because I *have* to install windows which refuses to work in anything but the first partition, or the NVIDIA drivers completely screw up leaving my computer in text mode hell.  :(

Oh yes the day I posted about getting a mac, I installed linux fine and then followed the procedure to install the NVIDIA drivers. I restarted my computer (correctly) only to find the 3 words of HELL "Missing Operating System".

Fdisk /mbr did nothing to help me return to windows and neither did doing a repair on windows (which has mysteriously located itself on the "E:" drive for some strange reason my C: and E: drives are swapped around).

Good thing i'm getting a mac...

Yes very good thing!  Macs, in my opinion, are the best computers on the market.  But I would suggest you still play with your linux machine until you can get it to work properly.  I mean nothing bad will come of it, unless of course you consider learning bad.  Also with os 10 it comes in handy to have a few *nix skills.

I don't think that I really need to play with linux because I could learn from any nix box. I have a bunch of old sun computers and a bunch of old sgi workstations (mainly indys and o2s) so i'm covered for that.

I'm dying to not use an x86 machine as my primary computer.

ATM all my friends are thinking I am going crazy and psychotic    hehe I will show them when they get fed up with reinstalling windows for the hundredth time

they are not exactly mine - rather my dad's who loves these computers. I just happen to be able to use them and they are really kwel   . Indy's are really cheap - maybe $50 Australian off ebay. GET ONE
