Corporations - Can't trust them...
« on: 11 October 2002, 20:39 »
This week and last i have been working in an IBM building. Saddened was i to see that all their staff in this building use Microsoft windows 2000. That's it. further inspection reveals that at least some of their servers run lotus domino on windows 2000 as well!

now, don't IBM have their own operating system? didn't they make big noises about using linux recently? Big blue certainly move in mysterious ways, that's for sure...

PS - oh yes, i started this topic and i hereby give everybody the right to go "off topic" with no fear of me coming on and pleeping about how they have all been flaming me and so on.

Even my dads work, who are a bunch of Microsoft Junkies, know to run Solaris for servers. (Solaris is the operating system handling the entire victorian power networks.)

Actually some high priority sites run Microsoft check www.unixsucks.tk  :D

That Unixsucks guy is a dumbass(sorry for being Captain obvious). Linux sucks is one thing, but Unix sucks? That like spits in the face of all those 0ldsk00l guys from the past.

quote:
But here is which I like the most.

Here is on of my favorites: "stone-brained, knuckle dragging, microcephalic, misanthropic, genetic dead-end", "I look forward to each of his illiterate, rambling, biased, inane dribblings of his unstructured mind".
At least *NIX people know the meaning of words like "microcephalic" and "misanthropic". How many windoids could say the same thing?     :D

"But here is which I like the most".        And *NIX people don't have any trouble putting together a coherent sentence. What a dumbass!   :D

Or is he? Very interesting that this site should also have this link: Windows Hate Site. Rather interesting choice of links for such a "pro" M$ site, don't you think? I suspect that someone is putting one over on the windoids here. (It wouldn't be the first time)   :D

well i was walking past the Sun Microsystems building on King William St earlier and i noiced that they have put up some big adverts for their Sun LX50 servers, and lo and behold, they have 'Linux' in big letters all over them! well it's a bit misleading since they have a picture that appears to read 'Solaris Linux' (?).

Anyway, after my shock with IBM, it's just funny to see these big companies twisting and turning like a twisty turny thing about it. Sun's poster said that the LX50 would support 'enterprise level OpenSource technologies', interestingly enough, it also claims to 'provide' Solaris and Linux. I notice from Sun's actual site that the computer itself supports two systems, Sun Linux and Sun Solaris. I bet there are other multi processor alpha versions of linux that run on it, but maybe they mean that they would not support it if you ran those systems on it.

So, just a little update on my amusing corporate computer observations! I was a little excited about this since it is the first time i have seen a company promoting linux in real life! (i mean not on the internet and not in a magazine).
