Music industry raids Kazaa's Australia HQ
« on: 7 February 2004, 02:55 »
Yesterday, investigators for the music industry raided offices of Sharman Networks, owner of Kazaa, in search for evidence of copyright infringement.

It won't be too long before they're raiding your house too!

KaZaA has nothing to do with copyright infringment, it's the users who do it. Stay off KaZaA and target the big guys who make lots and lots of burned music CD's.

Really, I see 12 year olds getting sued for $ 10.000, but orginazations who burn lots of CD's are free to do it.

Two important points

1)  This is Australia, and the organization involved is a subset of the Aussia version of the RIAA.

2)  This was a private corporation raid... they got permission from the government but it was done by a corporation, not law enforcement.

This kind of stuff is scary.  When I was a kid I thought corporate controlled futures like Blade Runner or Max Headroom were just science fiction.
Now I'm not so sure.
