"BeOS, the operating system that could have been the foundation for Mac OS X, but almost died, instead has returned as Zeta OS -- which is supposed to be fast, stable, media centric and boot within 15 seconds. Zeta is being released by yellowTAB of Germany and has applications such as an office suite and the Firefox browser bundled with it. Most BeOS applications will also run as-is. Screenshots are available." According to the NewsForge story linked there, the release could be as soon as next month.

I've been covering Zeta for over two years or so, it's awesome that they have a final version now.

What's the main difference between Zeta and BeOS?

Do they have the same kernel?

Zeta is based on the source code of BeOS 5.1 beta, also known as Dano, which was never finished.

if you would like to try beos, goto bebits.com and do a search for beos max (or beosmax.org)
or go to phosphuros.tk (based on 5.1, like zeta is, but maybe not the most legal thing in the world... *cough* grey area *cough*
