Netscape to Ship on New HP Computers

I wonder how long it will take until Microsoft sues HP.

AOL subsidiary Netscape has signed the first non-IE browser distribution deal with a major PC manufacturer since the late 90s. Starting early next year, Hewlett-Packard will ship Netscape 8 on all new PCs and laptops, with customized tabs leading to HP and Compaq Web destinations.

However, Internet Explorer will remain an option for HP customers. During initial setup, an option will be presented to select Netscape as the system's default browser. Icons to launch Netscape will be placed on the Windows desktop and Start Menu.

HP emphasized Netscape's security as a factor behind the deal. Netscape includes advanced privacy settings and anti-phishing features alongside tabbed browsing and an integrated RSS reader.

The agreement could also be seen as a big win for Mozilla and its open source Firefox Web browser on which Netscape 8 is based. Firefox has enjoyed immense popularity since its 1.0 debut last year, but adoption by mainstream consumers has slowed. Such a bundling deal could help the upstart browser regain its foothold against IE.

HP computers rank only second in shittiness to Toshiba but it sucks extra bad that quite a few people actually get suckered into them. Just got done fixing one for a client, damn thing is idling at 60 degrees Celcius, no wonder seeing as how that pack it all into a tiny ass case with no breathing room and a elf dick sized power supply unit.

HPs used to be good, I have a pre-merger Laserjet printer and the damn thing is a work horse. I also had an HP computer one time that was rather exceptional. After the Compaq merger though they just went to shit. Nowadays I avoid HP like the ebola virus.

Sorry but I don't. They overheat, their mobos die quick, their customer service is ass. They suck as a company too, having been sued for billions of dollars for faulty products in the last 6 years.

This year I've worked on 2 Toshiba laptops, one was stone dead and the other had just got back from being returned. There's no way I'd buy a Toshiba laptop.

Also to get back on topic, I think you should all remember that Netscape is not the underdog they where back in the 90s. They are owned by AOL which is just as evil and corrupt as Microsoft, IMO.

 Interesting how people will rely on name-calling when the point is moot, isn't it?  Really, the whole conflict was caused because we (United States) didn't agree with them (just about everybody in Eastern Europe / Asia) about who was fascist at the time.  It's easy to debunk people as Communists when you're coming from McCarthy's viewpoint.
