And even if you use Windows as a webserver, if you run Apache instead of IIS, then there's no problem in this case. However, people are stupid enough to run Windows, IIS, MS-SQL and ASP.NET, so that people who write virusses have the time of their live.

so what, with windows, even though microsoft don't even apply their own patches, even though windows is so insecure that microsoft are constantly telling people they must apply all patches as soon as they come out, and even though windows still fails to work properly even when such patches are applied (often using methods which are difficult or impossible to automate, causing a headache in situations with a large number of machines), we are now being told that you must NOT install the latest patch because it makes your computer unstable?

good job my operating system doesn't have this problem.

I can understand people using windows on their home computer but why the hell would you use Microsoft software for a server?

There are two reasons:
System administrators in training get little or no education on GNU/Linux or *nix, and use Windows as their server software because they aren't used to have something better.

Microsoft gives out refunds and discounts on their server software, operating systems and Office for schools and migrating businesses, without the recieving party knowing that their software could be cheaper and better.

The high school I work at is using Windows on student computers only because most educational software is built for that operating system. We use Red Hat Linux, Novell NetWare and SmoothWall GPL for our server, firewall, file-server, etc.
However, there are more and more educational software avaible for Linux, and Sun is giving schools refunds when they use StarOffice for Linux.
